Philosophy
I began my journey as a yogini in 1992. I was fortunate enough to live close to the original Jivamukti studio in the East Village of New York City. My first teachers were David Life and Sharon Gannon, who were the innovators of the Jivamukti style of Hatha yoga. In 1994 I received my yoga teacher certification from the Sivananda Ashram, and began teaching right away. I have studied many styles of Hatha yoga, including Kripalu, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Forrest, and Anusara. I have been blessed with many esteemed teachers in these varying traditions.
I teach from a place of deep intuition and a desire to share the potency of the practice. Yoga has given me many things, but one of its greatest benefits has been increasing my ability to tolerate challenge and it’s accompanying uncomfortable sensations. I believe that when we can stay present in a pose, truly present to the fluctuations of energy, sensation, breath, thinking-we are able to take that experience into our day-to-day lives, and find a more harmonious relationship to the mystery of life unfolding.
My classes are vigorous, deep, and anchored in therapeutic alignment principles. My aim is to help my students experience a profound inner stillness. We do this by bringing mindful awareness to our physical bodies, engaging our fullest breathing capacity, clarifying the energy body, and investigating the space between our thoughts. You will leave class feeling alive and refreshed on all levels.
