Weekly Class Schedule

Fridays 9:30-10:45am

Green Yogi, 2807 Telegraph Ave, Berkeley

My yoga classes are vigorous, spacious, and grounded in therapeutic alignment principles. My intention is to create a space in which practitioners can experience a deep sense of inner wellness and stillness. As we move consciously and breathe fully, our life force energy becomes brighter, and our minds become clearer. Practitioners leave class feeling not only strengthened and refreshed, but more resourced and connected—to their bodies, their breath, and their inner life.

Philosophy

I began my journey as a yoga practitioner in 1992, fortunate to live near the original Jivamukti studio in the East Village of New York City.  My first teachers were David Life and Sharon Gannon, innovators of the Jivamukti style of Hatha yoga.  In 1994 I received my yoga teacher certification from the Sivananda Ashram and began teaching immediately. Over the years I’ve studied many traditions of Hatha yoga, including Kripalu, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Forrest, and Anusara, and have been blessed to learn from many esteemed teachers within these various lineages.

I teach from a place of deep intuition and desire to share the potency of this practice.  Yoga has given me many gifts, but one of its greatest benefits has been increasing my capacity to meet life’s challenges, along with the uncomfortable thoughts and sensations that often accompany periods of change and growth. I believe that when we're able to stay present in a pose–tracking the subtle fluctuations of our energy, sensation, breath, and attention–we cultivate an inner steadiness that touches our daily lives in meaningful ways. This presence supports resilience, compassion, and flexibility as we navigate our ever-changing circumstances.

  • “I began practicing yoga with Rachel during my first pregnancy, when her extensive knowledge as an instructor and a doula were key in helping me have a safe and nourishing practice.  I’ve continued practicing with her for the past 8 years because I value her calming energy and thoughtful, alignment-based practice.  Rachel is a joy to work with; her clarity and wisdom have taught me valuable lessons that I carry with me off the mat into my daily life.”

  • “Rachel has an uncanny ability to blend the physical and spiritual aspects of yoga without ever making it feel like she’s pushing a dogma or just teaching a fitness class. Whatever you come in for, you always get that and more. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked out of her class saying ‘that was exactly what I needed’. Her steady, intuitive approach leaves me room to show up as I am and go at my own speed, and at the same time I feel seen, supported, and gently encouraged to challenge myself in some new way. Rachel is the teacher for who I am today.”
